Respectable Street Information
Respectable Street is an amazing nightclub and music venue that was opened in 1987. The location was chosen by owner Rodney Mayo who bought the property on Clematis Street and converted what was a boarded-up Salvation Army location into a nightclub. It opened its doors to the public on June 5th 1987 and took its name from an XTC song by the same name.
Since then, it has become the first location and leader behind the Subculture Group and has since hosted over 1000 live acts ranging from the first performing avant garde act Chris and Cosey to The Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. It also hosted legendary performers like the Damned, The Misfits as well as Indie newcomers like Surfer Blood, who have used Respectable Street to hone their talents before going on to National fame.
In short, it has become one of the premier live music venues in the American South.
